I am especially looking forward to this First Friday in Fortuna. Similar to Arts Alive in Eureka, Fortuna’s businesses open their doors with displays of original art and live music that waifs from store to store. Among the open businesses are: Horizons, Kozy Korner Gifts, L’s Kitchen, Main Street Art Gallery, Marian’s Beauty Salon, Moore’s Sleep Center, Precision Intermedia (where I will have my art work), Rain All Day Books, Strehl’s Shoes, Taco Loco, The Playroom, Trendz, Bartow’s Jewelers, Beverage Plus Foods, Humboldt Healthy Foods, The Antique Depot, and Little’s Baby Boutique.
A significant change in creating art now as compared with my “first generation” art career is the global market available through the internet. For example, I have paintings on sale through a site called Etsy.com, and information through blogs like this. These sources are tremendously beneficial for they provide great feedback, help and encouragement through the readership. However, the local community has a vital aspect as well. Interacting face-to-face with those in the community encourages ongoing relationships, and an additional avenue of mutual encouragement and support. Friendships form. Plus, I love to teach art and enjoy meeting new students!
This First Friday is April 5th and commences at 6 PM through 9 PM on Main Street and the business sector of downtown Fortuna.
Yay!
