Orchids are grown in green houses in the local meadows of Loleta on the North Coast of California. They make for wonderful subjects to paint.
The giving of flowers express so many emotions. Occasions where we congratulate, celebrate, encourage, convey love, tenderness, sorrow and caring are times we give flowers. God could have created a very practical world in which flowers didn’t exist or they could have been very utilitarian in form and function. Yet the earth is beautified by their presence.
Spring is a wonderous time to not only grow and give flowers but to paint images of flowers in all their radiant glory. They express much. Flowers are neither controversial or partial but speak a universal language. What a painting of flowers convey may be unique to the individual viewing them, but natural and pure beauty is always a part of their appeal.
As any artist knows there is joy in creating. It’s but a glimpse of what the Great Creator no doubt felt as He created planet earth and all its inhabitants. I think he laughed when He created flowers.
