5 “P”s – The Third P is for Process

This video shows the process of creating a painted wedding portrait from initial drawing to the finished painting.

Process – so much in life is a process, but we live in a culture of the instant!  Technologically we have so much available to us at lightning speed that it seems very old-fashioned to submit to the idea of process.  From when we breathe our first until we breathe our last we are in the process of many things.  Good things take time.  Those gifted with a lot of natural talent are tempted to skip out on the process because their craft, or sport, or whatever, comes easily to them.  But in not embracing the concept of process, those with lesser talent that keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep trying will come out ahead in the long run!

The spiritual process of transformation is described in this verse from Paul’s letter to the Romans:

Don’t copy the behaviors and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.  – Romans 12:2

Everyday we are in some kind of process.  Our choices and decisions each day have much to do with the outcome of that process.  In art and in life, if we embrace the idea that we make good progress by one positive step at a time, and persevere, then as we look back we will be amazed at what has been achieved in the process.
