I had the great opportunity to meet with the first graders at South School and ask them what they thought was important for their fellow students to remember. Their answers all revolved around the theme “Be Kind.” Each of the children placed their hand print on the lower section which became a field of flowers. The mural measures 8 feet tall by 16 feet wide and is painted with high quality oil based sign painter’s paint. The best part of the experience was interacting with the staff – which is a very positive and encouraging group, and talking with the children. In the rough and tumble world we live in, this simple message can have a high impact. I hope it will serve as a daily reminder that we always have a choice as to how we treat the other person. Like the kids say, lets’ be kind.
