Honoring Mentors

“If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.” – Isaac Newton If we have had some success in any area, including art, we can be sure that we have benefitted from one or more mentors. Mentors come in a variety of circumstance. Some, like parents, may pourContinue reading “Honoring Mentors”

Boundaries and Grids of Life

A common exercise to help train the artist’s eye is to enlarge the image of a photograph by using a grid method wherein a picture is sectioned off.  A corresponding larger piece of art paper or canvas is similarly sectioned off in proportion, simply larger.  Then the student-artist concentrates on one square at a timeContinue reading “Boundaries and Grids of Life”

When we think of shoes there is what we call the sole of the shoe.  The word ‘sole’ or ‘soul’ is used in a couple of different ways.  In ministryContinue reading “Sole Inspiration”

Teaching Art – Part of the New Adventure

Last night students had the choice of either drawing the poseable figure, the fresh-cut flowers, or using the grid technique to enlarge their own personal photograph reference shot into an outlines sketch size suitable for drawing.  I greatly enjoy seeing their progress and hearing of their artistic discoveries.  The feedback they offer encourages me and gives meContinue reading “Teaching Art – Part of the New Adventure”
